Jane was fifteen years old while attending “Camp Living Water” the summer between her ninth and tenth grade years in high school. About halfway through the week, one of the worship leaders built a large fire and laid sticks beside the fire. She does not recall much about what was said in that service. But what she does remember was this overwhelming sense, this pull, to say yes to God. When the leader asked the campers to take a stick and throw it in the fire and to “dedicate” their lives, she could do nothing else but get up, go to that pile of sticks, and pray to God, “yes, but take this fear.” She watch the fear burn in the fire. At fifteen, she had no idea what it all meant. She went back to her home church, stood before her congregation, and reflected to them, “I feel that God has called me into full time ministry. I do not know what that means for me in the future, but I do know that my life is to be dedicated to helping others.” These words are for ever etched into her memory, and have influenced the paths she has taken. However, after high school, Jane left the Church and ran away from God for many years. Yet, God’s call never left her. In 1995, she was brought back into the Church. The call to “help” was renewed. It was then that she began the journey of obtaining her degrees. Jane believes that counselors are to join people on their journey as they travel through life. They walk beside them and are present with them as they face the cycle of changing times.
A native of Florence, South Carolina, Jane is happily married to Tim, an ordained Presbyterian Minister. They have two awesome children. Jane is very active in the church and enjoys coaching and playing sports. She enjoys playing guitar and singing, drawing, painting, and writing short stories and poetry.
